Wholesale inflation surges to 13.11 pc YoY in February

New Delhi, March 14 : The wholesale inflation stood firm at 13.11 per cent year-on-year in February, 2022 as compared to 4.83 per cent in February, 2021. The wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation in February was also higher than 12.96 per cent in January this year. The high rate of inflation in February, 2022 is primarily due to rise in prices of mineral oils, basic metals, chemicals and chemical products, crude petroleum & natural gas, food articles and non-food articles among others. “The annual rate of inflation is 13.11 per cent (Provisional) for the month of February, 2022 (over February, 2021) as compared to 4.83 per cent in February, 2021. The high rate of inflation in February, 2022 is primarily due to rise in prices of mineral oils, basic metals, chemicals and chemical products, crude petroleum & natural gas, food articles and non-food articles etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” said a release from the Office of the Economic Adviser. As per the data released by the Office of the Economic Adviser, inflation for manufactured products which account for 64.2 per cent of the WPI basket went up to 9.84 per cent in February from 9.42 per cent in January this year. Inflation for another major group fuel and power came in at 31.50 per cent in February as compared to 32.27 per cent in January. Inflation for primary articles which account for 22.6 per cent of the WPI basket fell slightly to 13.39 per cent in February from 13.87 per cent in the previous month. NK
