Mercedes-AMG Teases All-Electric Super Sedan to Replace GT 4-Door Coupe

New electric flagship to feature AMG.EA platform, over 980 bhp, and futuristic design

Mercedes-AMG’s Electric Future Begins with All-New Sedan

Mercedes-AMG is set to usher in a new era of high-performance electric mobility with an all-electric sedan that will replace the current AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The performance arm of Mercedes-Benz has officially released teaser images hinting at the design direction of this next-generation electric flagship, which is expected to debut next month.

Mercedes-AMG electric sedan

While the vehicle’s name is yet to be disclosed, the teaser visuals reveal several key styling elements. In contrast to the liftback design of the outgoing GT 4-Door Coupe, the new model adopts a traditional trunk layout, signifying a design evolution. Other visible elements include flush door handles, large multi-spoke wheels, and a sleek, coupe-like roofline, all underscoring its performance-focused styling.

AMG.EA Platform with YASA Motors to Deliver Exceptional Output

The upcoming electric sedan will be based on Mercedes-AMG’s dedicated AMG.EA (Electric Architecture) platform. This advanced EV architecture is engineered specifically for performance, and will also underpin an upcoming AMG electric SUV.

One of the highlights of this platform is the integration of YASA’s axial-flux electric motors, known for being lighter and more compact than conventional motors. These units are capable of producing up to 473 bhp and 800 Nm of torque each, enabling substantial power figures with high efficiency.

While the exact configuration remains under wraps, early estimates suggest that the new electric AMG sedan will house two electric motors, potentially delivering a combined output close to 986 bhp and 1,355 Nm of torque. Mercedes-AMG may choose to deploy these motors in an all-wheel drive setup or concentrate both at the rear for a more aggressive, performance-driven experience.

Design, Weight, and Dynamics: A New Benchmark in EV Performance

Despite its performance credentials, vehicle weight remains a factor to monitor. The outgoing GT 4-Door Coupe plug-in hybrid V8 already exceeds the weight of a 2024 Range Rover Sport. With two powerful motors and advanced battery systems, the new EV sedan is expected to be similarly hefty. However, Mercedes-AMG is likely to optimize the weight distribution and chassis dynamics to uphold its driving legacy.

The teaser images also raise questions about rear taillight authenticity, hinting at potential design decoys to maintain secrecy. However, the LED daytime running lights appear production-ready, suggesting the design phase is nearing completion.

As Mercedes-AMG pivots from combustion-powered muscle to high-voltage precision, this new electric sedan is poised to become the brand’s new electric performance benchmark, offering supercar-rivaling specs in a four-door format.
