Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has organized a large-scale plantation drive at Baghdara Crocodile Conservation Reserve in association with the Forest Department, Udaipur, under the government’s Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign. This major initiative, titled “One Tree in Mother’s Name”, aims to encourage individuals to plant a tree in the name of their mother or any loved one, strengthening an emotional bond with nature and contributing to a healthy environment.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from Hindustan Zinc’s CEO Arun Mishra, Chief Conservator of Forests Udaipur S.R. Yadav, Deputy Conservator of Forests Udaipur Yadavendra Singh Chundawat, retired Chief Conservator of Forests Udaipur Rahul Bhatnagar, and other dignitaries. Also present were Hindustan Zinc’s Chief Operating Officer Kishore Kumar S, Vedanta’s Head of CSR Anupam Nidhi, Head of HSE and Environment Pradeep Singh, over 100 volunteers, company employees, forest officials, and students from Zinc Kaushal, Udaipur.

The campaign has set a target to plant and care for 5,000 saplings, highlighting a commitment to greenery and biodiversity conservation. The initiative aims to inspire everyone to plant a tree for their mother or a dear one, forging a personal connection with nature.

CEO Arun Mishra praised the Forest Department’s dedicated efforts for wildlife conservation at Baghdara and expressed pride in Hindustan Zinc’s involvement. He said, “We want Udaipur to be renowned not only for its lakes and palaces but also for its ancient natural habitats like Baghdara. Our commitment extends beyond today’s plantation drive, as we are dedicated to protecting Baghdara’s species and conserving its rich biodiversity.”

Chief Conservator S.R. Yadav stated, “Under the Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign, and with the collaboration of Hindustan Zinc and the Forest Department, we have begun a plantation drive in Baghdara with a target of over 5,000 saplings. This effort includes not just plantation, but also the development of walking trails, jungle treks, and eco-tourism pathways, along with the removal of invasive species and habitat restoration. These steps will contribute to the holistic development and unique biodiversity conservation of Baghdara.”

Earlier this year, Hindustan Zinc signed a Rs 5 crore MoU with the Forest Department, Udaipur, for the rejuvenation of Baghdara Crocodile Conservation Reserve. The project focuses on large-scale plantation, habitat restoration, environment-friendly adaptation, development of visitor facilities and walking trails, construction of water conservation structures like ponds and check dams, and scientific guidance for the protection and nourishment of crocodiles and other wildlife.
