Hindmetal Becomes First Company in India to Use Advanced Electromagnetic Technology for Mineral Exploration

Udaipur – Hindmetal Exploration Services Private Limited (HESPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hindustan Zinc Limited, has become the first company in India to implement advanced electromagnetic (EM) technology for mineral exploration. This cutting-edge method employs borehole EM and SQUID sensors for subsurface and surface-level mineral detection.

Borehole EM offers high-resolution data on the shape and conductivity of ore bodies, such as sulfide deposits, aiding in their mapping and analysis. Meanwhile, surface-deployed SQUID sensors are highly effective in capturing weak electromagnetic signals, enabling detection of deeply buried or low-conductivity mineral targets. This technology significantly enhances the precision, speed, and efficiency of mineral exploration.

HESPL is also deploying LiDAR and hyperspectral imaging-equipped drones to generate high-resolution maps of vast areas.

In addition to known mining zones, HESPL is actively focusing on greenfield exploration, identifying new mineral-rich regions that have not been previously surveyed. By integrating diverse datasets—geological, geophysical, geochemical, and satellite imagery—HESPL uses AI and ML models to make data-driven, predictive decisions about future exploration efforts.

The company is placing special emphasis on critical minerals and base metals, aiming to unlock India’s hidden resource potential through the combination of technology, talent, and data intelligence.

Speaking on this initiative, Hindustan Zinc CEO Arun Misra said,
“We believe the future of mineral exploration lies at the intersection of science and smart technology. At Hindustan Zinc, we are committed to driving digital innovation, empowering our people, and partnering with emerging tech startups. Hindmetal’s achievements are not just milestones in exploration—they are strategic steps toward India’s mineral autonomy.”

HESPL follows a “data-to-discovery” model, offering end-to-end solutions through a structured and science-based process. With over two decades of deep expertise in base metal exploration, the company operates with a dedicated team of specialists in geology, geophysics, remote sensing (RS), GIS, and drilling.

Hindmetal has been accredited by the Quality Council of India – National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (QCI–NABET), earning it ‘Category-A’ status as an exploration agency under Government of India guidelines.

With this data-driven approach, HESPL is integrating geological, geophysical, and satellite data through AI/ML models to discover new mineral zones, aiming to reveal India’s untapped mineral reserves and shape a more sustainable future for mining.
