Udaipur, June 4 — As World Environment Day approaches, HDFC Bank has launched a major awareness initiative under its CSR programme ‘Parivartan’, aimed at reducing plastic use and promoting responsible waste management. The campaign, which targets customers, employees, and the general public, is part of the bank’s growing commitment to environmental sustainability and community-led action.
Encouraging Conscious Plastic Usage
The campaign encourages individuals to minimize single-use plastic consumption and shift towards sustainable alternatives. Participating HDFC Bank branches across India will serve as plastic e-waste collection points, allowing customers to deposit their plastic for recycling. In addition, clean-up drives and educational sessions led by bank employees will promote collective action against plastic pollution.
Empowering Local Communities
Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director of HDFC Bank, emphasized the importance of collective efforts, stating,
“At HDFC Bank, we believe that meaningful change is co-created with communities. Our Parivartan initiatives, including the plastic awareness campaign, are designed to support local ownership and create enduring impact through the involvement of local citizens.”
In line with this philosophy, HDFC Bank is also strengthening its community-led waste management efforts nationwide. Through Parivartan, the bank aims to implement solid waste management systems in over 1,000 villages and establish material recovery facilities in 15 urban local bodies by 2025.
Online Pledge for a Cleaner Tomorrow
As part of the digital arm of the campaign, HDFC Bank has also launched a dedicated webpage, offering resources on the environmental impact of plastic pollution. Citizens can take an online pledge to reduce plastic use through simple yet effective lifestyle changes.
Driving Sustainable Impact Across India
In recent years, HDFC Bank has expanded its sustainability efforts through innovative programs in regions like Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. These include waste segregation, recycling, and community engagement projects, supporting national missions like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One standout initiative is in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, where a 26-foot mural made from upcycled plastic bottle caps was unveiled in collaboration with Waste Warriors. In Bir and Dharamshala, a behaviour change campaign across 10 panchayats successfully diverted over 200 metric tonnes of dry waste from landfills in FY 2024-25.
Through its plastic awareness campaign and broader Parivartan initiatives, HDFC Bank continues to set a benchmark in corporate environmental responsibility, actively involving communities in the mission for a cleaner, greener India.
