Lucknow, 13 November (Udaipur Kiran). A CBI court in Lucknow has convicted a Bank of Baroda branch manager in a bribery case and awarded him five years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 on Thursday.

The convict, Ram Swaroop Mishra, was serving as branch manager at the Bank of Baroda’s Baskhari branch in Ambedkar Nagar. The Central Bureau of Investigation registered the case on 7 March 2017 following a complaint.
According to the complaint, the applicant had been sanctioned a loan of Rs 20.25 lakh under the ‘Kamdhenu Yojana’ from the Baskhari branch. A partial amount was credited to his account, but the account was later frozen.
When the complainant contacted branch manager Mishra to enquire about the freeze, he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000. After negotiation, Mishra reportedly agreed to accept Rs 25,000 through a signed blank cheque.
The CBI was informed, and its team caught Mishra red-handed while accepting the cheque. The cheque was also recovered from his possession.
After investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on 31 March 2017. Following the trial, the CBI court on Thursday convicted Mishra and pronounced the sentence.
