
Anand(Gujarat), Feb 28 : The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), co-operative marketer of milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has decided to increase the Amul fresh milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across the country from Tuesday onwards. According to a press release issued by the cooperative body of over a dozen district level diaries in the state apart from a rise in the price of Amul fresh, prices of Amul Gold, Taaza and Shakti brands would also see a rise. In Ahmedabad and Saurashtra markets of Gujarat, the price of Amul Gold will be Rs. 30 per 500 ml, Amul Taaza will be Rs. 24 per 500 ml, and Amul Shakti will be at Rs. 27 per 500ml. The press release informed that the increase of Rs 2 per litre translates into a four percent increase in MRP which is lower compared to the average food inflation. The release said that during the past 2 years, Amul has made only 4 pc increase per annum in prices of its fresh milk category. It said that this price hike is being done due to rise in costs of energy, packaging, logistics, cattle feeding cost. The overall cost of operation and production of milk has increased. Considering the rise in input costs, the member ons have also increased farmers’ price in the range of Rs. 35 to Rs. 40 per kg. As a policy, Amul passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the milk producers. The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to the milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production, the release said. RAJ RKM
